Watch: Bumrah's magical bowling in the superover
Jasprit Bumrah has made a name for himself with his wicked yorkers and deceptive slower ones but thing that has impressed us the most is his composure under pressure. Bumrah once again produced a magical over under pressure to seize a nail-biting victory for Mumbai Indians.
Jasprit Bumrah bowled a beautiful spell of 4 overs and ended his day with the ball with figures of 2/32 or so we thought. The match took an unexpected turn towards the end when the Mumbai side crumbled and tied the match at 153. The tie meant it was time for the very first super over of the season.
The Gujarat side handed the colossal responsibility to the experienced James Faulkner who restricted the Mumbai side to just 11 runs off his six deliveries and it seemed as if the Gujarat side would comfortably achieve the win but the Mumbai skipper was not ready to give away the match without a fight, and so he chose the death bowling maestro Jasprit Bumrah to bowl the
Bumrah's face showed no signs of nervousness and he carried the same expression which he does while bowling any over but it seemed the pressure did creep under his skin when he started the proceedings with a no ball. The disappointment was written all over his face after the first delivery as it was going to be followed by a free hit. Finch was all set to hit Bumrah for a boundary and had eyed his spot but when Bumrah noticed Finch shuffling he fired a delivery towards his legs and cramped him for
The next delivery wasn't the best either as it was a big wide and the Mumbai bowler had already conceded 3 runs off just a ball and now had to make a strong comeback to keep his side in the game. The death bowling specialist did just that by maintaining his composure and bowling a slow full-length delivery which was misjudged by McCullum who ended up slashing nothing but thin air. The third legal delivery of the over was another slower yorker that deceived McCullum once again but he ended up taking a single when Parthiv Patel fumbled with the ball.
Bumrah had bounced back and now it was time to put the nail in the coffin and he did just that. The 4th delivery was a well-directed pacing yorker that turned out to be a dot. Finch was now ready for a yorker and his bat was ready to come down hard on the ball but Bumrah outfoxed the Aussie once again when he bowled a high full toss that caught Finch's flashing blade sticker and gave away just a single.
The Gujarat side needed 7 runs on the last ball to win the match and all Bumrah had to do was bowl a legal delivery and restrict the batsman to less than 6 runs. He bowled another full-length delivery and gave McCullum no chance of freeing his arms and sealed the 3 points for the away side.
