India vs Bangladesh | India squad for solitary Test announced
The BCCI has announced the squad for the upcoming Test match against Bangladesh scheduled to be played in Hyderabad from February 9 to February 13. There are a couple of surprises in the squad with Shikhar Dhawan and Parthiv Patel missing out, while Wriddhiman Saha returns to the side.
Team for Bangladesh Test: Virat Kohli, Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Karun Nair, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Jayant Yadav, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Amit Mishra, Abhinav Mukund, Hardik Pandya
Abhinav Mukund, whose last Test appearance for India was back in 2011 against England, has made a return to the Test squad after a gap of six years. The 27-year-old has been in good form for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket and could feature in what will be his sixth Test match appearance for the nation. Mukund had scored 849 runs in 14 innings at an average of 65.30 for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy this season.
Interestingly, Parthiv Patel did not find a place in the squad despite his strong showing against England in the Test series. The southpaw is likely to return to the squad during the upcoming Test series against Australia, though. Meanwhile, Wriddhiman Saha, who led the Rest of India side to a win in the Iran Cup final with a brilliant double century, will look to establish himself in the starting lineup once again with a good showing against Bangladesh.
Shikhar Dhawan, who has been struggling with his form recently, finds himself out of the Test squad once again after being ignored for the T20 squad in the ongoing series against England. Mohammed Shami, whose father had passed away recently, has also been rested. Hardik Pandya, who did not make an appearance in the Test series against England despite being picked for the first time, might get a chance in this game at Hyderabad.
