Mithali Raj becomes the first Indian woman to score 1000 runs in Women's World Cup
Indian women's skipper Mithali Raj continued breaking records with the latest one set for scoring 1000 runs in Women's World Cup and becoming the first Indian woman and the fifth in the world to do so. On Wednesday, Raj became the highest run-getter in ODI cricket.
Mithali Raj once again came to India's rescue after the Indian openers were sent back to the dressing room by the New Zeland bowlers as early as the 10th over and rebuilt the innings along with Harmanpreet Kaur.
In the process, Raj brought up her fiftieth half-century and became the first Indian woman to score 1000 runs in the Women's World Cup tournament and only the fifth in the history to do so. New Zealand's Debbie Hockley stands at the helm of the table with 1501 runs off 43 innings followed by England's Janette Brittin (1299), Charlotte Edwards (1231) and Australia's  Belinda Clarke at second, third and fourth respectively.
Earlier in the tournament, Raj surpassed Charlotte Edwards to become the highest run-getter in women's ODIs and also reached the milestone of 6000-runs.
The Indian skipper is currently playing a pivotal role in rebuilding the Indian innings as they stand 103-2 in their do or die encounter against New Zealand.
