Mitchell Swepson aims for success in quadrangular series working alongside Sridharan Sriram
Australia A’s leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson has praised the former Indian all-rounder and spin consultant Sridharan Sriram describing him as a genius. Swepson has been working hard with Sriram and aims to perform well in the upcoming quadrangular series against India A, India B and South Africa A.
Sriram, who is a part of Australia A’s support staff led by head coach Graeme Hick and assistant Ryan Harris, has worked with Australia’s top spinners for the past few years on Asian tours. He was also a part of the support staff in the last year’s memorable Border-Gavaskar Trophy series where he worked with Swepson and Ashton Agar, the two specialist spinners in
It was Agar along with suspended skipper Steven Smith, who called Sriram a genius during the series in 2017. And now, Swepson, in a recent interview, stated that Sriram has been of great help to him personally as a spin consultant. He felt that Sriram got the best out of him by suggesting him to hit the stumps while bowling along with other variations as well.
“Sriram has been a great help for me personally as a spin bowling consultant. He’s always looking at ways I can improve my game technically and tactically as well, trying to get balls to hit the stumps, using variations and things like that,” Swepson was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au.
Australia’s squad for the Test series against Pakistan would be named just after the four-day tour against India-A. As a result, national coach Justin Langer stated that the ‘A’ tour would have a huge impact on the Test squad for the series in UAE. However, Swepson emphasized on performing well in the ongoing series and did not want to focus much on the future.
“It’s a massive series for everyone. Obviously, the UAE tour is coming up, I think a lot of people will be wanting to press their case for that. I certainly will be, but for me, it has always been the same and I will be looking to perform well in the ongoing series. I’ll give my best and hopefully we get performances as a team,” he added.
