BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary has claimed that BCCI CEO, Rahul Johri's, recent increment of Rs 60.5 lakh has been approved without him meeting the requisite targets of his contract. Chaudhary has also penned a letter to the CoA, asking them to look into the issue and take the required action.

Around two weeks ago, several members of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had held an informal meeting at a Mumbai suburban hotel concerning the Lodha reforms issue. The meeting was chaired by BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary wasn’t even invited to attend the meet.

Things have not always been a smooth sail for Chaudhary ever since the CoA had restricted his powers as a treasurer as the committee believed Chaudhary to lend a “steadfast and unflinching support to persons who have a vested interest in obstructing the reforms process.”

However, in a completely new turn of events, the treasurer has now sent a mail to the CoA claiming that the increment granted to CEO Rahul Johri, which amounted to almost Rs 60.5 lakh, is a clear breach of Johri’s contract. Johri’s present annual income is learnt to be Rs 5.76 crore and his increment was set to be 0.5% of the incremental cash flow accrued to the BCCI, which was Rs 1 crore in his term of 2015-16.

CEO Rahul Johri’s contract states that he would be eligible for an increment at the completion of one year in the job. He was appointed CEO of BCCI on  June 1, 2015, which subjects him to an increment of two years as of June 1, 2017. And it is here where all the confusion arises. According to Chaudhary, Johri was granted an increment in April 2017, two months prior to the date agreed upon in his contract, stating it as a direct breach of contract. He has penned a letter regarding the same to the CoA.

“…The CEO ought not have received any increment since the prerequisites for the increment to be given were not even met. However…the CEO was given an increment in violation of the conditions agreed upon in the contract. The increment was approved by the Committee of Administrators and the approval is not in accordance with the contract,” wrote Chaudhary in his mail that was addressed to Vinod Rai, Diana Edulji, and also to Amitabh Choudhary (BCCI’s acting secretary) and CK Khanna (acting president).
