IPL 2019 | Venky Mysore to have discussions with CAB to ensure the team has home advantage
Kolkata Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore has stated that there will be discussions with CAB, its president and curator to ensure that the side has home advantage. He further spoke about the incredible support KKR have received from the home crowd despite losing six games on the trot.
Kolkata Knight Riders have had a hot and cold run this season and have tightened the nose around them. They are now in need of winning all the games in order to make it to the playoffs. One of the major reasons for their run could have been considered as the fact that KKR have not exploited the home advantage to the fullest and are currently placed fifth on the points table after winning the nerve-wracking encounter against Mumbai Indians on Sunday.
KKR CEO has asserted that the team has not played to their potential. When asked if the flat batting track of Eden has been a barrier, Mysore was quoted by PTI saying, “In all fairness, we have probably not played to our potential. If some of the results had gone our way, we would not be talking about the conditions, pitch and all that.”
KKR have banked heavily on their bowling department, especially the spinners to bail them out in previous seasons. However, the Eden pitch that was reset two years ago, has become more conducive for batting. Mysore didn’t refute to the fact that the pitch has been a little unusual but assured that the KKR management will get in touch with the CAB including its president and curator to ensure the home advantage is maintained.
“You build a team based on your home conditions primarily because you’re playing seven games there. So it’s been slightly unusual in that sense. That’s a good thing and that’s how rivalries are built up,” Mysore added.
“We will try and continue to have good discussions with the CAB, curator, the president and others to make sure that as home team we should have some advantage.”
Mysore further spoke about the support KKR have received despite losing six games on a trot. “We are a Kolkata team. The kind of love affair, romance that has built up between KKR, the city and the fans is most gratifying. The team also recognises it. We are grateful for that. The kind of support we get here is incredible,” Mysore said.
“Until yesterday, we had lost six in a row but every game was pretty much sold out. Fans have come cheering all the way. That’s great to see. That just shows, while losing is frustrating for everyone, the support remains and it continues. So there is no question of that type of a thought process.”
