Pacer Lungi Ngidi is set to miss the Boxing Day Test against England as well as the MSL final having incurred a hamstring muscle tear during a warm-up for the MSL playoff. The 23-year-old's short career so far has been peppered with injuries and has allowed him to play just five Test matches.

It's been a year since his grand debut against India but Lungi Ngidi's cricket career has been peppered with injury ever since having only played 5 Test matches since. Yet another injury has struck the fierce pacer as he has been ruled out of the Boxing Day Test as well as the final of MSL later this month.

Ngidi suffered a hamstring tear during warm up ahead of the MSL playoffs and won't be back before January. The injury has casted a question over further participation in the home series against England.

Lungi Ngidi sustained an acute hamstring muscle injury during the warm-up prior to the MSL T20 play-off on Friday. Scans done on Saturday showed a significant Grade 1 tear of his hamstring muscle and therefore he has been ruled out of the MSL T20 final," Cricket South Africa chief medical officer, Shuaib Manjra, said.

"He will commence his rehab and return to play program with the aim of getting him fit to play for the Titans in January 2020 and based on his progress, a decision will be made regarding his availability for selection for the Proteas team."

The tearaway missed an ODI series against Sri Lanka because of an abdomen injury. There was a hip injury and then a knee injury that kept him out of series' in New Zealand and Australia while a side strain ruled him out of IPL 2019. Ngidi also suffered a hamstring niggle against Bangladesh in the World Cup earlier this year and then missed a handful of games as well before making a comeback.
