There is a thing that if Pakistan are in the mood to mess things up, then they will and no one can save them from embarrassment. Yesterday, Beuran Hendricks missed a sitter first and his run-out throw missed by a whisker, but Mohammed Rizwan found a way to run himself out on the same ball.

In the first T20I in Cape Town, Pakistan were chasing 193 runs and were well on course to achieve that target and with Shoaib Malik on the crease, it was very much possible. But nothing is certain when Pakistan are batting and the last delivery of the 17th over proved just that.

Malik miscued a slog off an Andile Phehlukwayo slower ball and it was a catch served in a platter for Beuran Hendricks who was standing at short third man. However, Hendricks failed to grab that catch, but sensing the run-out chance was still on, he threw that to the keeper's end but it missed by a whisker as the batsmen completed a single. Had the ball hit the stumps, it was a sure dismissal. Pakistan, somehow, had been given two lives on one ball. But if there is one team that knows how to mess things up it is Pakistan.

They somehow managed to reach the crease, but with no one backing up the throw, Pakistan decided to run another single as an overthrow and it seemed too easy for them. However, David Miller, who was fielding at deep mid-wicket, ran fast and fired a direct hit at the bowler's end. Rizwan dived so as to keep the bat inside the line of the crease, but he failed in his pursuit, or maybe the lady luck was tired of assisting them. The throw hit the stumps and Rizwan was declared out.

In what should have been an easy chase, Pakistan managed to grab defeat from jaws of victory as they slumped six runs short of their target.
