VIDEO | Shahid Afridi refuses to walk off despite blatant hit-wicket dismissal
A batsman being dismissed by hit wicket is not new in cricket but how often have we seen the same batsman not knowing it after hitting hit foot with the stumps. This happened during a BPL match where Shahid Afridi was unsure about his dismissal after dislodging the bails with his foot.
It was the 14th match of BPL and Comilla Victorians and Chittagong Vikings were up against each other at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Batting first, the Victorians were off to a terrible start as they were failing to get quick runs and wickets were falling at regular intervals as well. At one point of time, the batting side was four down with only 77 runs on the board in 12 overs.
Mohammad Saifuddin and Shahid Afridi were in the middle with an aim of resurrecting the innings. Afridi was on strike on the second delivery of the 14th over which was bowled by Khaled Mahmud. The pacer banged a ball short and Afridi looked to pull that one by going deep back in his crease. The Pakistani all-rounder looked a bit awkward and had missed the shot and many thought it to be a dot ball. But suddenly Chittagong wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad started celebrating.
To everyone’s surprise, the bails were down and they were claiming a hit wicket. However, having no idea of stepping on the stumps, Afridi stood inside his crease and even prepared himself to face the next ball. The umpires went upstairs and the replays proved that the Pakistani cricketer had indeed hit the stumps with his foot.
