Pakistan have a very good chance to win World Cup, believes Shoaib Malik

Shoaib Malik is of the opinion that the Pakistan side has a very good chance of winning the ICC Cricket World Cup to be held in England this year. However, he also mentioned that how the team will perform against all other sides in the tournament will define how far they will go in the tournament.

After the 1992 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Pakistan have never won a 50-over world event in their cricket history. It has been 27 years since the Men in Green under the captaincy of Imran Khan lifted the trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. 

Meanwhile, the former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik has sounded confident that the side under Sarfaraz Ahmed has a very good chance to win the tournament this time around.

"I feel we have a very good chance to win the tournament. But then having a 'good chance' doesn't mean much. How we play each game and how we perform against the rest of the world will define how far we go," Malik told Sky Sports.

The 36-year-old all-rounder would be retiring from ODI cricket after the World Cup, which is scheduled to be held from May 30 to July 14. Pakistan would play its first game against the Windies on May 31 before taking on hosts England on June 3. They would also look forward to the marquee battle against arch-rivals India on June 16. 

"Our capabilities include having top ODI bowlers and batsmen in our line-up and personally I'm looking forward to a memorable World Cup 2019," the former captain said.

Pakistan, ranked fifth in the ICC ODI rankings, is in South Africa and has taken a 1-0 lead after a five-wicket win against the Proteas at the Port Elizabeth.
