Vidarbha coach Chandrakant Pandit lavished praise on pace spearhead Umesh Yadav after his team clinched a spot in the final of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy by defeating Kerala in the semis on Friday. Yadav starred with the ball as he picked up 12 wickets to help his side win an innings and 11 runs.

After setting the bar high by lifting the Ranji Trophy last year, the Vidarbha cricket team have lived up to expectations in the ongoing season by maintaining their unbeaten run in the domestic tournament this year. Vidarbha coach, Chandrakant Pandit, was all praise for his players who have been in terrific form all throughout this season.

The team, led by captain Faiz Fazal, has managed to make it to the final of the Ranji Trophy for the second time running as they beat Kerala in the semi-finals by an innings and 11 runs. Pandit lavished praise on India pacer and Vidarbha’s premier pacer, Umesh Yadav, who picked up a total of 12 wickets at the Krishnagiri Stadium in Wayanad on Friday.

“My team played best that’s why we won. Any player or a team that plays domestic cricket wants to hold that trophy. I would love to see my captain holding that trophy again. All credit goes to Umesh. Umesh has bowled extremely well in the two matches he has played so far,” Pandit told TOI sources.

Fazal, who scored an impressive 75 batting at the top for his team, also heaped praise on his team as he added that they were looking forward to playing the final for the second time in a row.

“We are very desperate to touch the Ranji Trophy again. The feel of holding that trophy is just amazing. Throughout the season that’s what we worked on. We peaked at the right time. We are now looking forward to the final.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be in the final for second year in a row. I can’t ask for more. It was definitely a good game for us. But we need to take one more step. The final will be a tough game. Both are playing well. It won’t be an easy game like this. We need to play at our best,” the Vidarbha captain added.

The semi-final match against Kerala saw Pandit take a huge risk and hand two players - Yash Thakur and Atharva Taide - a spot in the playing XI. However, the young duo both impressed and Taide vindicated Pandit’s decision. While Thakur took a four-for, Taide was brilliant in the field.

“We are very happy about the way youngsters have performed. Not just Taide or Thakur, the likes of Aditya Thakare too has performed well. Thakur must have learnt a lot form this match because it was a pressure game. He bowled extremely well today,” Pandit added.
