Nobody can be member of two state associations, directs CoA
The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators have issued a directive on Friday that as per the Lodha Committee recommendations, nobody can be a member of two state associations. There have been instances of officials having memberships in more than one state association.
As per the Lodha Committee recommendations, every state association needs to have at least two former players on the board who will have voting rights in the state election. However, as it is a common occurrence that many players have turned out for more than one states during his playing career, the possibility of them holding positions in more than one state association is extremely likely. To solve the issue, the Committee of Administrators have issued a directive on Friday that as per the Lodha Committee recommendations, nobody can be members of two state associations.
“… in order to implement Cricket Reforms process, membership of a person should be restricted to one (1) State Association and therefore, a person shall only be entitled to membership of one (1) State Association at a time,” the CoA directive stated, reported Indian Express.
However, the directive added that it is all down to the players’ interest and which state’s membership he wants to maintain going forward. But once a cricketer chooses an association, it will be that association’s responsibility to ensure that their respective members do not hold membership in any other State Association.
“In light of the above, it is directed that any person holding memberships to more than one (1) State Associations will have to choose the State Association to which he/she desires to remain a member. Further, the State Associations are directed to ensure that their respective members do not hold membership in any other State Association.”
“The Committee of Administrators, keeping in mind the principle of de-centralisation of power and influence (which lies at the very core of the Cricket Reforms) directed that such former international players are required to indicate the State Association to which membership is to be granted. Further, the former international players are only entitled to membership to only one (1) State Association at a time,” stated the CoA directive.
