Newly-elected BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, on Wednesday, lauded MS Dhoni as 'one of the greats of the game' while also stating that champions like him don’t finish early. Speculations on MS Dhoni’s playing future has been on ever since India crashed out of the World Cup after his heroic effort.

Assuming the reigns of BCCI, Sourav Ganguly became the first Indian captain in 65 long years to serve in that position. Ganguly, while taking about his prime motive, stated that he wants to run the governing body with no corruption and lack of commitment.

Talking about his long list of reforms he has in mind for his 10 months long tenure, Ganguly also stated that he will be releasing funds for the state associations for development of infrastructure at the grass-root level. But among all these ambitious plans, a question popped up about the future of former Indian skipper MS Dhoni.

Talking about the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman, Ganguly revealed that any decision on Dhoni's future will completely depend on the man himself. Ganguly also cited his own example when he returned revamped and performed exceptionally after being dropped back in 2006 by the then India head coach Greg Chappell and stressed on the fact that a player of Dhoni's calibre doesn’t finish quick.

"I have taken over today and hopefully we will have a word with one of the greats of Indian cricket ," Ganguly said in a press conference on Wednesday, reported Cricbuzz.

"It depends on him. Even when I was left out and when the entire world said he will never make it, I believed in myself and came back and played for four years. Champions don't finish quickly.

"I don't know what is in his mind, what he thinks about his career. We will leave at that. He is one of the greats of the game. Over a period of time, his achievements, when you sit down and take note, you say wow. So, when I am around, everybody will be respected,” Ganguly said of Dhoni. Here is the video:
