AUS vs SL | Glenn Maxwell ‘freaky’ in T20Is, feels Pat Cummins

Australia paceman Pat Cummins is convinced that Glenn Maxwell is a freak when it comes to T20Is as he always performs well for the team. Cummins praised the top-order batsman’s 28-ball 62 in the opening T20I against Sri Lanka, which the hosts won by a gigantic margin of 134 runs.

Like many others in the past, another peer of Maxwell - Pat Cummins- feels that the right-handed batsman is just brilliant in the T20 International format. Coming out to bat at No.3, after openers David Warner and Aaron Finch had set the stage on fire, Maxwell hammered a 28-ball 62 and justified his promotion up the order.

While Australia registered their biggest win margin in T20Is by runs with their 134-run victory, for Sri Lanka it was their biggest defeat.

"[Maxwell is]Freaky [in T20Is],” Cummins exclaimed.

“I said tongue-in-cheek he looked quite level-headed, not all over the place, and then saw he was 45 off like 15 balls. Just crazy.

"He's brilliant for us, especially in T20 cricket."

While Maxwell is known as someone who would lose his wicket to some nasty hitting, Cummins classifies this knock to be special. Moreover, the 31-year-old justified his promotion to No.3– something he has often failed to do in the past.

"You see so many of our guys, they all bat in that top three [for their T20 franchises]. We have plenty of options, but he took hold of that yesterday," Cummins said.

Australia, who are 1-0 ahead in the three-match T20I series, will play the second fixture on Wednesday, 30 October, in Brisbane.
