Bangladesh confirm hosting Australia in mid-2020
The Bangladesh cricket board has released the official confirmation for Australia’s tour of Bangladesh that is set to be held in June next year. Australia has toured the cricket hungry nation on two occasions in the past, winning once, and sharing the spoils the second time around.
This series is part of the World Test Championship and was originally scheduled to be held early, next year, however it had to be pushed back a couple of months at the request of Cricket Australia. Bangladesh Cricket Board agreed to the proposed changes and declared the tour to be hosted in mid 2020.
"We were supposed to host two Tests in February, but now the Test series will be played in June-July 2020," Bangladesh's cricket operations chief Akram Khan has been quoted by local media as saying this week.
Bangladesh were also set to host the Australians for a T20 series later this year, but that is now rescheduled to a later date. The new date for the T20 series was set mid-2020, this would help both teams prepare in the build-up to the 2020 T20 World Cup.
"We are delighted to be touring Bangladesh on June 2020," said Roach. "The two boards felt this was a more beneficial timing for the two-Test series than the original date. Australia sit fourth on the points table for the World Test Championship and would be looking forward to 2020 to move up the table. They are set to take on New Zealand and Pakistan in Test cricket to kick off their home season. Apart from them, the Australian team is also set to take on India, South Africa, and New Zealand for limited-overs tours in the early part of 2020. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will be World Test Championship campaign against India in November.
The previous time, both teams faced each other in Test cricket in the country, Bangladesh registered their first Test win against Australia. Fans of the Bangladesh team would be hoping for their players to replicate some of the magic from the previous series.
