After getting axed from the T20 World Cup squad, Sanju Samson is of the opinion that it is wrong to think about India selection when you are playing for an IPL team. He further added that people do say good things when you perform well and they also say other things as well when you fail to deliver.

Sanju Samson was excluded from the World Cup T20 which is scheduled to begin on October 17 in UAE. The wicketkeeper-batsman was expected to make a good impact in the T20Is against Sri Lanka, but he failed to score runs in the series. Samson’s T20I numbers are ordinary as he has scored only 117 runs from 10 matches at a strike rate of 110.

Sanju Samson, who leads Rajasthan Royals in IPL, is hopeful that he can perform well in the second leg of IPL which begins on September 19. The Kerala-born cricketer has stated it is unfair to think about India selection when you are playing for an IPL team. He further added that people will speak good about a cricketer when he performs well and they say other things if the player fails to produce good innings.

"First of all, when you're playing for an IPL team and thinking about Indian selection, then it's a wrong mindset. People do talk a lot about Indian selection and cementing your place but that is actually a by-product - if you perform, you get opportunities," said Samson, reported TOI.

“Things are much clear. It's important to go into the team with a clear mind. There will be no doubts about the selection when IPL resumes," Samson stated.

Speaking on his teammates in Rajasthan Royals, Samson is highly impressed with the performance of Chetan Sakariya. The Rajasthan Royals skipper is hopeful that the team will play quality cricket in the second half of the IPL 2021 in UAE.

"I have been with RR from the age of 18. I have seen a lot of Indian talent coming in and going on to play for India like Sakariya did. We give a product to the Indian team. That's our mindset and that's how we pick our team. We have to be the fittest team in the IPL," he states.

Rajasthan Royals are currently placed in the fifth position in the IPL 2021 points table. The Rajasthan-based franchise will start their campaign against Punjab Kings on September 21 in Dubai.
