According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, Shimron Hetmyer, who recently became a parent and had left for Guyana on May 8 to be present for the birth of his child, has rejoined Rajasthan Royals (RR) for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign. The West Indies batter will be available for RR selection for their final league fixture against Chennai Super Kings, on May 20.
Hetmyer returned to Guyana a few hours after scoring a brisk 16-ball 31 in the victory against Punjab Kings on May 8. He announced via social media account that his wife Nirvani has given birth to a baby boy. As of now, he is currently undergoing quarantine as per IPL protocol.
Hetmyer was bought by RR for INR 8.5 crore in the 2022 mega auction. He has been playing the finisher's role at RR, scoring 291 runs at an average of 72. Notably, he remained not out seven out of his 11 innings.
So without any doubt, RR will be pleased with Hetmyer's return to the lineup. They are currently second on the points table in IPL 2022, with eight wins and five defeats. Their last win came against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Sunday.
