Shreyas Gopal bagged a hattrick in SMAT cricket match against Baroda

New developments often enhance one’s performance and fate. Karnataka’s Shreyas Gopal found his form back with the ball after the Chennai Super Kings snared him at the mega auction as he enforced a hattrick in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy that included the scalps of Pandya brothers.

Eyeing to gain the most out of the match and rise in the Group B points table, Karnataka won the toss and elected to bat first against Baroda. Despite losing early wickets, Abhinav Manohar’s fifty and R Smaran’s brisk thirty helped them get to 159 runs at the Emerald School Ground, Indore. However, they were further put on the back foot when Shreyas Gopal wreaked havoc with the ball in the eleventh over. 

On the first ball of the eleventh over, Gopal came from over the wicket and sprayed a fligted delivery outside the stumps. Sashwat danced down the ground trying to charge the googly but ended up skewing it to long on. Hardik and Krunal Pandya were next to get dismissed with the former finding the deep mid wicket fielder with a whip off a fuller delivery before his elder brother incurred a top-edge off an intended paddle sweep to watch the slip fielder back peddle and gobble a reverse cup. Irrespective of the wrist spinner’s brilliant efforts, Vishnu Solanki and Shivalik Sharma’s sensible batting dented Karnataka’s hopes for a win.
