Not everyone can exude swagger on a cricket field, where confidence and presence often separate the good from the great. Shreyas Iyer is well-known for his dashing personality on and off the field, but it did not go well in his on-field trial, leading to a disastrous duck in the Duleep Trophy.

Shams Mulani’s valiance on the opening day did not prosper in the morning session of the second day between India A and India D’s clash in the second round. Harshit Rana shined at the start of the day, removing Mulani and Aqib Khan on back-to-back deliveries, allowing the opposition to add just a couple of runs to lead to a 290-run first innings total. In reply, the India D bowlers didn’t step back from showing their prowess as Khaleel Ahmed struck twice in his first spell with the second one leaving Shreyas’ swag shattered.

Operating with the new ball, Khaleel made the most out of his left-armer’s angle as he trapped Atharva Taide off guard on the third ball of the innings. Shreyas Iyer entered the fray with a cooling glass on, a rare sight to see a batter do so. With a mix of leaves and firm defence, he stood tall on the first six deliveries he faced before pushing hard on a fuller delivery to open his account. Shreyas got the store off a leading edge as the ball swirled into the hand of the mid on fielder who swerved to his left and sent the skipper packing. The Mumbaikar was visibly disappointed with the dismissal and the Twitterverse found it funny how his cool shades of entry cave into a ridiculous seven-ball duck.
