IND W vs BAN W | Twitter in awe as Arundhati Reddy impresses as substitute with stunning effort
Substitute players often try and contribute in whatever ways they can, and Arundhati Reddy did just that during India’s final league game against Bangladesh in the Women’s ODI World Cup in Navi Mumbai. The pacer came up with a stunning dive to send back the visitors’ top-scorer Sharmin Akhter.

However, there was a further stoppage after 12.2 overs with the Tigresses’ score reading 39/2 when the covers came on. After considerable loss of time, the game restarted as a 27-over affair as the batting side was placed at 87/3 after 21 overs.
An injury to Pratika Rawal in the last ball of that over brought pacer Arundhati Reddy, who made her guest appearance count. The visitors lost frequent wickets as they tried to accelerate proceedings to finish with a competitive total on the board.
They slipped to 101/6 in the next three overs with a wicket falling in each of them, as Arundhati grabbed the eyeballs with a fantastic effort. In the first ball of the 25th over, left-arm spinner Shree Charani bowled a flighted delivery on a good length on the middle stump as Sharmin Akhter tried to cash in with a slog sweep.
However, the extra bounce meant the ball hit the top half of the bat before ballooning to the mid-wicket area. An alert Arundhati sprinted in from the boundary line and caught the ball low during her run before ending with a forward dive. She immediately stood out and threw the ball to the ground in a show of raw aggression as the teammates ran in to applaud her flying effort.
Twitter was impressed with Arundhati’s effort, who made it count even after coming in as a substitute fielder.
Wow!
