What's worse that could happen to a team right before the T20 World Cup 2026? A player from the USA’s team has now been suspended by the ICC after having five breaches. This comes as a major setback, as Jones has been one of the top performers for the team in the last edition.

The T20 World Cup 2026 is now less than two weeks away. But the troubles seem to be mounting for each and every team right now. A few days back, the ICC had to take a tough decision to exclude Bangladesh from the tournament. They were replaced by Scotland, and fans thought that no other team could face the issue now.

But it turned out to be wrong. A new challenge has been encountered by the USA team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. Right before the tournament, one of their players has now been suspended. It wouldn't have been much of a problem for the team if he was a reserve player, but the one who has been suspended is a key player for the team.

1. Aaron Jones Gets Suspended

The player who has been suspended by the ICC is Aaron Jones, the key batsman for USA in the T20 World Cup 2026. He played a crucial role for the team's wins in the last edition of the tournament. But now, the team might be looking forward to his replacement, in case his suspension is not lifted by the ICC.

It has been confirmed that the USA batter has committed five breaches in the ICC Anti-corruption Code. Due to this reason, he has now been suspended from all forms of cricket with immediate effect. Still, there is a chance for Jones to get back to the game, if he is able to respond against the charges in 14 days.

While USA is yet to name its squad for the T20 World Cup 2026, it was expected that Jones will be a part of the same. The team also organised a training camp which took place in Sri Lanka with 18 players. Out of these, they would be selecting 15 eligible players, and unfortunately, Aaron Jones won't be one of them.

The ICC reports also say that the majority of the charges which came against him were due to his participation in the Bim10 tournament 2023-24 edition. This tournament comes under the Cricket West Indies (CWI). But it is also being confirmed by the ICC that two breaches were done by Jones in the international matches.

Aaron Jones has violated three codes of conduct of the Cricket West Indies. Along with that, he also violated two ICC code of conduct rules, which has led to his suspension. The primary reason why he has been suspended can be known as his involvement in match fixing. And as a result, he won't be a part of the USA for the T20 World Cup 2026.

2. Aaron Jones Debut T20 World Cup Campaign

USA made it to the T20 World Cup for the first time in the 2024 edition. Being among the hosts of the tournament, the team had a bright opportunity to shine in their home grounds. And this is where Aaron Jones decided to take the front foot for his team. He has an impressive start to his first ever game in the ICC T20 World Cup.

Aaron Jones in T20 World Cup 2024:

  • Innings: 6
  • Not Out: 2
  • Runs: 162
  • Average: 40.50
  • Strike Rate: 135.00
  • 100s: 0
  • 50s: 1

Jones smashed 94 runs against Canada, which further helped USA to win the game. Eventually in the match against Pakistan, he was able to play a crucial role for the team in the chase. The USA was able to draw the game against Pakistan, and they went on to win the Super Over too. This was a historic win for the USA, as they reached the Super Eight stages.

But these two knocks against Canada and Pakistan were the only ones where Jones was able to impress the world. Now it would be a bit challenging for the team to find a player in place of Aaron Jones to represent them at a big stage.

3. USA’s Schedule

USA is present in Group A for the T20 World Cup 2026. In this group, they will be having games against India, Pakistan, Netherlands, and Namibia. Their first match will take place on the opening day against India, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. It will be exciting for the fans to see whether the team would repeat their T20 World Cup 2024 win against Pakistan this time also or not. Both teams will face each other on 10 February at Colombo.
