Can Punjab Kings cling with the Thin Rope to Playoffs Race?
Today early runners Punjab Kings face the slow starters Lucknow SuperGiant. The Punjab Kings have no margin for error when they play at the Ekana Stadium on Saturday. A campaign that once had great promise has reached a tense conclusion after six straight losses.

Now they have to win over the Lucknow Super Giants to survive, or lose and be eliminated.
With 13 points and a net run rate of +0.227, PBKS is ranked sixth. They will advance to 15 if they win, but qualification will still depend on other outcomes. By defeating the Mumbai Indians, the Rajasthan Royals, who are currently ahead of them, may shut out Punjab. PBKS will also watch Kolkata Knight Riders' last match against Delhi Capitals if Rajasthan falters, as KKR is another team that might make it to 15.
The stakes are different but not negligible for LSG. With four victories from 13 games, they are at the bottom of the standings and have no chance of making the playoffs, but their final home game gives them an opportunity to finish with some dignity and influence the season of another team.
In New Chandigarh earlier this season, Punjab defeated LSG by 54 runs, giving them the most recent advantage between the two teams. Assistant coach Lance Klusener of LSG acknowledged that their campaign had been characterised by inconsistency. He pointed to a batting unit that only became better in the second half and remarked, "We haven't really been able to string it all together.”
Our Take
It seems like Punjab Kings will be able put their best foot forward today but that may not be enough to make the playoff cut considering the present points table scenarios. But a lot is dependent on the exciting fixtures in IPL 2026 over the weekend.
