Former Spain coach Robert Moreno has expressed grief on the choice of words by Luis Enrique, who took over the managing duties of Spain after taking a break for personal reasons. Enrique said that Moreno was disloyal to him and he cannot be a part of Lucho’s coaching staff anymore.

Former Spain head coach Robert Moreno has said that returning national boss Luis Enrique "labelled me with words that are ugly", as reported by the BBC. Luis Enrique resigned from the manager’s post citing family reasons but now has returned to the circuit. During his absence, his assistant, Moreno was handed the Spain job. Moreno did a pretty good job helping the 2010 World Cup winners to qualify for Euro 2020.

On the return of former Barcelona manager, Moreno expressed his desire to lead the team till Euro 2020 and then return to the role of the assistant coach but it didn’t go down too well with Enrique who thought Moreno to be disloyal. This led to the former Barcelona manager announcing that his former number two would not be a part of his coaching staff anymore.

“I don't know why Luis Enrique doesn't want me to be with him today. I think he labelled me with words that are ugly and are not attributable to me. In the first meeting with Luis Enrique, he told me that I had done what I had to do and that he felt proud of me. Then I asked him for a meeting to give him a hug and convey my support. It seemed appropriate to tell him that, just as I had said before, I would step aside if he decided to return. He said that seemed perfect but he told me that he no longer wanted me. I was in a state of shock. I let the staff know and I wondered what I had done wrong,” said Moreno to the BBC.

Spain finished top of their qualifying group after winning eight out of 10 games and scoring 31 goals. They will be a top seed for Euro 2020 when the draw is made in Bucharest on Saturday. Moreno has been with Luis Enrique for 9 years and together they have managed teams like Barcelona, Roma and Celta Vigo.
