FC Barcelona are preparing a €100 million bid for Julián Álvarez as the long term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. The Argentine striker, currently with Atlético Madrid, has scored 25 league goals across 2 seasons in Spain.

Barcelona have reportedly held positive talks with Alvarez’s representatives before making an official offer. For the Spanish giants Barcelona, preparations for the post Robert Lewandowski era have already started as the club targets Atlético Madrid striker Julian Alvarez. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are set to submit an official offer worth around 100 million euros for the Argentine forward on May 29. The proposal will reportedly be a direct cash deal without involving any player exchange.

Barcelona recently secured an agreement for England winger Anthony Gordon and are now focusing on further strengthening their attack. Alvarez has emerged as the preferred long term replacement for Lewandowski, who is expected to leave Camp Nou after the 2025 to 2026 season. The 26-year-old striker has built an impressive record in Europe. During his time at Manchester City, Alvarez scored 20 Premier League goals across 2 seasons despite playing behind Erling Haaland.

Since joining Atlético Madrid in 2024, he netted 17 league goals in his debut season and added 8 more goals in the 2025 to 2026 campaign. Although Alvarez remains under contract with Atlético until June 2030, reports suggest he is open to leaving. Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain are among the clubs interested, while talks between Barcelona officials and the player’s representatives have reportedly been positive.
