Daily Sports Catch-Up: Ashwin No. 2 in ICC rankings, Hyderabad Aces win, India disappoints in Hockey
25th issue of our exciting, informative & concise (300 word) newsletter on Indian sports is here.
Hockey
India started bright but fell apart to lose 1-3 against Netherlands in the Hockey World League Finals in Raipur. The hosts did well to hold onto 0-0 till the 1st half despite Netherlands having ~65% possession, but then things went haywire in the second half! With 1 point from 3 games, India finished bottom of Pool B. India, however, is not out yet thanks to the league's format, and will face the winners of Group B, Australia or Great Britain, in the quarter-finals.
Tennis
Hingis, Karlovic guided Hyderabad Aces to a 25-19 victory against V Chennai Warriors in Hyderabad to end Chennai’s hopes of securing a place in the CTL Final.
Cricket
Ashwin has now become the No. 2 bowler in ICC Test rankings. Earlier ranked 5, he has now jumped over Broad, Anderson and Yasir Shah to move into 2nd place behind Steyn. India is now No. 4 on Test team rankings! After the dust-bowl in Nagpur, the Delhi curator promises a 'good test wicket' - hmmm!
