The title was always Andy Murray's to lose and he did not disappoint. He won a hard-fought match against Juan Martin Del Porto 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. The Brit became the first person to win two tennis singles gold medals, as he defended the title he won in 2012 successfully. What a tournament it was for Juan Martin Del Petro, though. The Argentine returned from obscurity, and he defeated Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal on his way to the final.

Simone Biles continued her dominance by winning another gold medal in the final of the women's vault event. She managed a score of 15.900 in her first attempt and then pulled ahead of the rest of the field with a score of 16.033
Golf, which returned to the Olympics after a gap of 112 years, saw Great Britain's Justin Rose winning the gold with a score of 16 under par. Sweden's Henrik Stenson won the silver, while American Matt Kuchar, who had a brilliant final round, won the bronze.
