In a recent interview with Esquire magazine, the 19 year old spoke about handling the pressure of playing for FC Barcelona and explained that the club’s high expectations push players to improve every day. He called Barcelona the best team in the world and admitted that he enjoys taking responsibility as a leader in defence.
Cubarsi also reflected on his rapid rise into the senior squad, saying the real feeling of success came when he continued getting chances after his debut. The Spanish defender revealed that former Barcelona captain Gerard Pique was one of his inspirations because of his ability to build attacks from the back. He also praised veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, calling him a childhood idol and saying training against him helped improve his defensive skills.
The youngster highlighted the importance of winning La Liga regularly while admitting that the UEFA Champions League remains the biggest target for the club. Looking ahead to the FIFA World Cup with Spain national football team, Cubarsi said the squad may not see itself as favourites but believes Spain remain among the strongest teams in world football.
