Shiva Keshavan has successfully defended his title at the Asian Luge Championships by clinching gold in Altenberg, Germany. The veteran winter Olympian finished in 55.60 seconds to bag his fourth career gold and will represent the country at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea.

Veteran Indian Winter Olympian Keshavan managed to win a gold medal for the country as he registered a comfortable victory at the Asian Luge Championships. He took 55.60 seconds to finish the race and to defend his title on an artificial track in Germany.

"I am so proud to bring the gold medal back to India for the fourth time. The track is one of the most difficult in the world and I have had a few bad crashes here in the past. So it was a challenge on many levels. I want to thank all my sponsors and supporters, without whom I really would not have made it this far," said Keshavan after the race as quoted by PTI.

He was the only Indian to take part in the competition which was scheduled to take place in Nagano, Japan but was later shifted to Germany for technical reasons.

Shiva was followed by Lien Te-An of Taiwan who took 56.12 seconds and Kim Dong Kyu of Korea, who took 56.50 seconds, to claim the silver and bronze medals respectively.

This victory helped Keshwan book his spot in the 2018 Winter Olympics which is scheduled to take place in November next year at Alpensia Sliding Centre in South Korea.
