Anirban Lahiri tied at 11th spot at WGC Bridgestone Invitational
Indian golf player Anirban Lahiri earned himself a tied 11th position at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, while Shubhankar Sharma tied 69th in the tournament. Lahiri finished with a 69 on the third day after he made a 65 and 70 on the first two days, short eight strokes from the top.
Lahiri started with a 5-under 65 to place himself at tied seventh on the opening day of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron. Lahiri earned six birdies against managing one bogey and was short of three strokes that could equal him with Ian Poulter, leading the log tables. Lahiri, along with six other fellow golfers, Rory Mcilroy, Jason Day, Justin Thomas, Marc Leishman, Luke List and Kevin Na scored a 65 to tie themselves at the seventh position in the tournament.
Lahiri scoring a 65 this year is the lowest round at Firestone and the lowest opening round this season. In 2016 and 2015 he tied 53rd and 33rd respectively.
“It has been a long time since I played a WGC, so I am really looking forward to that. It has been a great event and I have played it a couple of times before and I want to do well before it moves from Akron,” Lahiri told PTI.
Scoring a 70 on the second day of the tournament, Lahiri finished with a total of six-under 204 on the third day as he managed to score a 69 to tie himself 11th. He played for eight consecutive WGC Championships, right after he made his first appearance in HSBC in 2014. His appearance at Firestone this season was made after he played in WGC Bridgestone Invitational in 2016.
Shubhankar Sharma with a 2-over 72 was tied 63rd on the first day of the tournament. However, he slipped on the third day of the tournament as he tied for the 69th position with a 13-over.
