Golfer Shubhankar Sharma has stated that he will have to play well but he has an excellent chance to win the CIMB Open if it is his day. Shubhankar first got a taste of a win in December 2017 when he won the Joburg Open by defeating Erica Van Rooyen by a margin of three strokes.

Shubhankar Sharma turned to professional Golf at a very young age of 17, though initially he did not win for more than three years, the struggle paid off when he won the Joburg Open last year and then followed it up with winning the Maybank Championship in February this year. Now he has a handful of tournaments coming in CIMB Open, CJ Cup in South Korea and the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai.

"We have a really good chance here and if I play well, in golf, anything is possible. I feel like I can win on a given day when I'm playing really well. I just want to get back to the same level that I was at the start of the year and then things will fall into place", Sharma told AFP.

"It helps that the events are in Asia and I am so much more comfortable in the conditions here. If I just play well in these three events, have consistent finishes, I feel like I'll get off to a very good start towards securing my PGA Tour card and it will obviously help my world ranking".

The Professional Golfer who is searching for an elusive PGA Tour card along with Asian Tour order of Merit was also hopeful that he can hopefully turn the tables on some of the best in business in the likes of World Number four Justin Thomas, Paul Casey and Thailand's Kiradech Aphibarnrat.

"My immediate goal is to win the Asian Tour order of merit. But this stretch for me, no doubt, is very, very important. Obviously all three events are big PGA Tour events. You have some of the best players in the world playing," said Sharma, who failed to secure his PGA Tour card last season".
