Apurvi Chandela has won the first medal for India in the 10m air rifle event at the ongoing ISSF Shooting World Cup that commenced today in Delhi. She registered a new world record in the category by scoring 252.9 in an intriguing final of the first shooting World Cup in 2019 calendar year.

After starting off really slow on her first attempt in the final, Chandela showed good composure to take the top spot at the end of the event. She was at the seventh place after the first series but a good show in the second took her to the fourth position. The Indian shooter didn’t look behind from there and none of her shot went below 10 after that, in front of a good crowd at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in Delhi.

She was at the first place after the sixth series with a shot of 10.6 and in the very next one, she scored 10.8 to take the lead against Zhao Rouzho from China. The Indian maintained her lead till the end and eventually won the title.  In the process, the 26-year-old Indian also broke the previous world record which was in the name of Zhao.

Chinese shooters Zhao and Hong Xu claimed the silver and bronze medals respectively. Meanwhile, Chandela and Anjum Moudgil have taken the quota places at the 2020 Olympics to be held in Tokyo next year in this category.
