World Challenge Cup Gymnastics | Rakesh Patra makes it to Parallel Bars final

Indian gymnast Rakesh Patra has qualified for the final round in the Parallel Bars event at the ongoing FIG World Challenge Cup in Koper, Slovenia. Patra has made it to the final round after finishing eighth in the qualifying rounds of the global tournament with a score of 13.250.

Indian gymnast Patra has given hopes at the World Challenge Cup gymnastics competition as he will now feature in the final round of the Parallel Bars event. The Indian Navy employee from Odisha has a specialisation in Rings and Parallel Bars. In the qualifying rounds, Patra scored 7.950 points for execution and 5.300 for difficulty level and with a total of 13.250, he booked a place in the summit round which will be held on Sunday.

Ilias Georgiou from Cyprus remained at the top of the standings in the qualifying event with a total of 14.300 points while Kazakhstan’s Milad Karimi came second with a score of 14.050 points.

The World Challenge Cup events are important events organised by the FIG and the participation is open for all the nations. The points won in these events by the gymnasts will also count towards the World Challenge Cup Ranking List for each apparatus.

A three-member Indian gymnastic contingent represented the country in Croatia World Challenge Cup. Patra, Ashish Kumar, and Shraddha Talekar, all of them, failed to qualify for the final rounds. Patra, who had finished ninth in Cyprus, is the only Indian gymnast participating in the tournament in Slovenia.
