Why IPL 2026 Is a Mirror Image of IPL 2016

IPL 2026 is turning out to be similar to the IPL 2016 season. We have seen both RCB and SRH in the Qualifier, and they dominated just like this in the 2016 edition. But there are a few things which have been reversed, indicating that this time RCB may get its revenge.

The IPL 2026 may finally be the time when Royal Challengers Bengaluru take its revenge from the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Both of the teams have been in a heated rivalry since the IPL 2016 final, when Ben Cutting took it all away from RCB's hands. The IPL 2026 season is just turning out to be a mirror image of IPL 2016, since the things are reversed this time.

At that time, RCB had the Orange Cap, with Virat Kohli creating history. Now in IPL 2026, SRH is having the Orange Cap in majority of the games, with Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen topping the charts. In 2016, SRH was holding the Purple Cap but this time it is RCB who has kept its hold in the Purple Cap.

The IPL final was moved to the Chinnaswamy Stadium in the 2016 edition. But as we all know, it has been moved away from the Chinnaswamy Stadium this time. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the match winner, was a part of SRH at that time and now he is with RCB. Daniel Vettori was a coach of RCB back in 2016, but currently he is working with SRH.

Our Take

If the script turns out to be true, Royal Challengers Bengaluru would end up lifting their second IPL title in consecutive seasons. Along with that, it would be the perfect opportunity for the team to take revenge of the millions of hearts which broke at that time when SRH defeated RCB in the 2016 final.
