Shubhankar Sharma was at the top among the Indian golfers in the first round of the ongoing Indian Open Golf tournament in Gurgaon on Thursday. Sharma ended the first round at tied seventh which is two shots behind the leaders as he finished with 69 after back-to-back bogeys in the round.

The Indian golfer was five-under through 14 holes and was going good to share the lead with Stephen Gallacher. However, after running into successive bogeys, Sharma had to finish with 69 which he feels “still a decent start”. Gallacher and Julian Suri shared the lead in the first round with 67 each.

“I think I played very well today did not make too many mistakes. I missed a couple of key putts on my front nine. Made a silly mistake on six and seven but apart from those holes I am pretty happy with how I finished,” Sharma told PTI after the round.

“I hit it decent but not quite how I wanted to execute it. I ended up with a decent lie so fortunately I was lucky with where it ended up and hit it close enough (six feet) to make an eagle.”

Other Indian golfers Rahil Gangjee (70) ended the round at tied-16th and OM Prakash Chouhan (71) was tied-28th. Gaganjeet Bhullar and Rashid Khan shot 72 each and were tied-46th. With 74 each, SSP Chawrasia and Shiv Kapur were tied-76th while Anirban Lahiri (77) was in 107th.
