Arguably India's most successful captain and the chairman of Cricket Association of Bengal, Ganguly will be contesting for the top spot in the BCCI elections. October 14 will be the last day to give the nominations for the top spot of BCCI for the elections which are to take place on October 23.

The former Indian skipper was the first Indian captain to instil the belief among the Indian team players that they could fight fire with fire and win in overseas conditions. He always backed the selection of young prodigies like Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, etc. who went on to become superstars of the Indian cricket.

He also had the eye for talent and these qualities seemed to be reaping the fruits years after his retirement from cricket as the 47-year-old is now one of the favourites to get the top spot at the BCCI elections after he won the position of Chairman of the Cricket Association of Bengal twice in a row.

Brijesh Patel is likely to become the chairman of the IPL while many others are contesting for several other posts in the upcoming elections. Home Minister Amit Shah's son and a member of the Gujarat Cricket Association, Jay Shah is contesting for the post of Secretary, while former BCCI President Anurag Thakur's brother Arun Dhumal, who represents the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, is set to contest for the post of Treasurer. Jayesh George, from the Kerala Cricket Association, is set to be the Joint Secretary.

Sources from Cricbuzz has stated that these candidates are being selected by unanimous voting and opinions from all the associations together and thus they will not be contesting for the posts and will be selected uncontested. Exciting times lie ahead for Indian Cricket with Sourav Ganguly set to reform the system being at the helm of affairs, as he is capable of taking bold decisions for the welfare of Indian Cricket. October 23 will hopefully be the dawn of a new and successful era of the BCCI.
