As per a new report, the upcoming Asian Games 2022 could be postponed due to the fresh outbreak of Covid-19 in China. Even though there has been no official announcement made on the same, as per a top source, the tournament which is scheduled to take place in September, will be delayed.
The Asian Games in 2022 may be postponed due to China's worsening Covid issue. A top source told AFP on Thursday that the mega-event has the "possibility" of being postponed, addressing rumours that it will be pushed to next year.
"No official decision has been taken by the committee until now, but there is a possibility that it will be postponed," said Kuwait's Husain Al-Musallam, director-general of the Olympic Council of Asia, the Games regulating body.
The 2022 Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou in September. Shanghai, which is only about 200 kilometers from the venue, is dealing with the country's largest coronavirus breakout in two years. The Games are now planned to take place in Hangzhou from September 10 to September 25. According to organizers, all of the Asian Games venues have been completed.
