Secretary general of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) MP Singh has informed that there is no clarity over Pakistan’s participation at the 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships. The secretary-general has also added that the Federation is yet to know if they have got the visa or not.

The participation of the Pakistani paddlers at the 21st Commonwealth Games, starting from July 17, is now in some doubt as the TTFI has no idea about the approval of their visas. As per the PTI, four players and two coaches from the neighbouring country were scheduled to travel to play the tournament in Cuttack. However, the general secretary of the Indian federation has said that he is yet to get information about them.

“A six-member Pakistani contingent, including four players and two officials, was supposed to travel to Cuttack. They had sent in their entries well in advance but we are yet to hear from them, if they have got the Indian visa or not,” MP Singh told PTI.

The Indian government had given an assurance to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that all athletes will be given permission to take part in the sporting events played in India. After this, the IOC had lifted the provisional ban which was put on India on hosting international sporting events. The IOC had stopped all the discussions with India regarding the organisation of sporting events because as Pakistani shooters were not allowed to play in the ISSF World Cup in Delhi after the Pulwama Terror Attack. However, the Commonwealth Championships is not under IOC’s rules and regulations.
