Indian Aces defeated Japan Warriors 25-18 in the penultimate leg of the International Premier Tennis League in Dubai on Monday. With no Rafael Nadal in the Aces team, Australian Bernard Tomic made his IPTL debut only to suffer a 3-6 defeat against Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany.

The Indian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza started the match by pairing in the mixed doubles match against Kirsten Flipkens and Pierre-Hugues Herbert. The newly-formed Warriors pair hit a total of 14 winners to register a 6-4 victory over the Indian pair.

In the women’s singles, Agnieszka Radwanska thrashed Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 6-1 to take the Indian Aces into the lead. The Polish continued her brilliant form in IPTL as she dominated the match.

The Aces continued the thrashing to the next match as Fabrice Santoro defeated Thomas Enqvist 6-0 in the men’s legend singles. Enqvist, who came as a replacement for injured Marat Safin was nowhere in the game as the Frenchman hit nine winners to increase the Aces' lead to 16-7.

The men’s doubles match between the pair of Rohan Bopanna/Ivan Dodig and Pierre-Hugues Herbert/Leander Paes proved to be a much tighter affair as the match went into a tie-break at 5-5. Bopanna and Dodig won the tie-break 7-2 to take the match 6-5 and increase the lead of Aces to 22-12.

With the Aces having an unassailable lead, young Australian Bernard Tomic took on Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany in the men’s singles match. The debutant suffered a defeat as he went down 3-6 to the 34th-ranked German. However, the match finished in favour of Aces as they won the match 25-18 to increase their lead at the top.
