Mirza and Hingis reach the semis of Stuttgart Open
Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis defeated Czech pair of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova 6-1, 6-3 to book their place in the semifinal of the Stuttgart WTA indoor tournament on Thursday. The World No.1 pair took just 57 minutes to dispose off their opponent in a one-sided encounter.
The Indo-Swiss pair broke their opponents' service game five times during the match and announced their return to form with an emphatic win. After early exits in the BNP Paribas Open and the Miami Open, this performance will provide a much needed boost to the pair.
In the first set, the pair won 75% of their first serves and broke the Czech pair twice to capture the set 6-1. The second set saw them up their game on the serve, winning a healthy 84% of first serve points. However the Indo-Swiss pairing did get broken once. It did not matter though, as they broke their opponents thrice to cruise through the second set 6-3.
The Australian Open champions will now face the unseeded pair of Sabine Lisicki and Lucie Safarova in their semifinal outing.
