Indian Aces’ hopes of regaining the IPTL crown went up in smoke after losing to Singapore Slammers 30-14 in the second straight final held in Hyderabad on Sunday (Dec 11). In the face of a dominant display by Slammers, the Aces failed to win even a single match in the title round.

India Aces had beaten the Slammers 24-19 in the opening round last week but were flattened in the big final as they lost the final match 30-14 in what was a repeat of last year's final at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad.

The Slammers dominated right from the start as Carlos Moya continued with his superb form in the tournament by beating Mark Philippoussis 6-4 to put them ahead by winning the legends round.

Sania Mirza came on as replacement for Kirsten Flipken in the women's singles, but was unable to turn the match around, losing 3-6 to Kiki Bertens.

Mirza and Rohan Bopanna were no match to Marcelo Melo and Bertens as they lost  1-6. In the men's doubles, Feliciano Lopez and Ivan Dodig were downed by Nick Kyrgios and Marcelo, who were clinical in their 6-2 win.

With the penultimate mixed doubles match sealing the title for Slammers, Marcos Baghdatis completed the rout with a 6-4 win over Feliciano Lopez.
