France's Gael Monfils was at his innovative best against his compatriot Adrian Mannarino when the World No.14 spun 360 degrees around to come up with an exceptional backhand during his round of 32 clash at Wimbledon. However, the 30-year old lost the match 6-7, 6-4, 7-5, 3-6, 2-6 and was eliminated.
Gael Monfils had to face compatriot Adrian Mannarino in the round of 32 at Wimbledon and the duo started the match at full throttle taking the first set into a tiebreaker but Mannarino won the tiebreaker 7-3 to take the lead in the match.
However, Monfils clawed back into the game by winning the second set after trailing 3-1. The fifth game of the second set saw Monfils draw out his imaginative style which captivated the audience at the All England Club and gave us a perfect highlight reel moment for day 6 at Wimbledon.
Mannarino continued attacking Monfils and took a slender lead of 15-0 in the fifth game of the second set as well but it just encouraged Monfils to tackle Mannarino's attacking style with his innovative play. Mannarino started the game with a decent serve that was met by Monfils with ease on the other side of the net. However, Mannarino ran towards the net and played a volley with soft hands but that worked against him as Monfils got enough time to cover some ground towards his right. He, then, spun 360 degrees around to generate immense power for a forehand that rose above Mannarino just enough to beat his racquet and ended just inside the baseline giving Monfils his first points of the game.
