Roger Federer’s pre-quarterfinal against Grigor Dimitrov was highly anticipated as it pitted the ‘baby Federer’ against the man himself. However, the Swiss Master showed the young Bulgarian that there will never be anyone like him ever again, and this effortless drop shot in the third set is proof.
One of the greatest qualities that Roger Federer possess is that he makes his craft look easy, no matter how physically demanding it may be. And this ability only adds to the aura of the 35-year-old.
On Monday, Grigor Dimitrov, the man who has been termed ‘Baby Federer’ owing to his similarities with the Swiss’ game, was up against the Master himself. But not only did the World No.5 ease past his opponent, as always, he did it with a touch of class.
After losing the first two sets 4-6, 2-6, the Bulgarian was down 2-4 in the third. With the score at 15-0, Dimitrov fired a serve into Federer’s backhand, in response to which the Swiss effortlessly managed a picture-perfect drop shot, that landed perfectly on the Bulgarian’s side of the court. Dimitrov made a momentary effort to get there but realized it was futile and decided to hang back and revel in the shot's beauty! These are the times when we fully realize what makes Roger Federer a class apart - even from the rest of the Fab Four.
