WATCH | Roger Federer produces an incredible defensive backhand winner against Tomas Berdych
Roger Federer is known for his mesmerizing ways on the tennis court, but there are times when he manages to exceed even his own ridiculously high standards. During his Wimbledon semi final against Tomas Berdych, the Swiss Master hit a defensive backhand winner for which the Czech had no reply.
The fact that Roger Federer is an absolute genius is known to all, but there are times when he manages to leave both spectators and his opponent absolutely spellbound with some of his shot making abilities.
Having taken the first set 7-6 after a tiebreaker, Federer was leading 1-0 in the second set and with the score tied at 4-all, he served one out wide to Berdych’s backhand. Though the Czech managed to respond with a good deep return to the Swiss’s forehand, Federer somehow managed to dig out a return which landed in the middle of Berdych’s side of the court, the Czech then responded by another deep drive that put Federer on the back foot.
But just as the World No.15 was closing in on the net in an attempt to finish off the rally, Federer somehow managed to flick a backhand winner past Berdych, which left everyone stunned.
Federer eventually went on to win the match 7-6, 7-6, 6-4.
