French Open Roundup | Murray beats Del Potro; Halep enters last-16
World number one Andy Murray defeated Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina in the French Open on Saturday. Murray registered a 7-6 (10/8), 7-5, 6-0 win over his long-time rival. Meanwhile, Stan Wawrinka also entered the last-16. In women’s category, Simona Halep secured her place in the fourth round.
Top-seeded Andy Murray reached the French Open fourth round after thrashing Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro 7-6 (10/8), 7-5, 6-0. Murray will next face American John Isner or Russia's Karen Khachanov. After struggling for consistency in his initial matches, Murray finally found his rhythm in a rain-affected match.
Speaking of his victory Murray said, "Whoever won that first set would have the momentum as it would have been very difficult to come back in these heavy, slow conditions," as reported by Firstpost.
"He was playing much better than me in the first set. He had chances in the first set, he double-faulted on set point."
The match turned late in the first set when Del Potro failed to convert any of four set points and Murray eventually took the tie-break with his third set point.
In another clash, third-seeded Swiss player Stan Wawrinka reached to the fourth-round after beating Italy’s Fabio Fognini 7-6 (7/2), 6-0, 6-2.
Former US Open champion Marin Cilic also entered to the next round without losing a set, as he registered an easy 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 win over Spaniard Feliciano Lopez.
Meanwhile, British number two Kyle
In the women’s section, Romanian third-seeded player and 2014 runner-up Simona Halep sealed her place in the fourth round with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Russia's Daria Kasatkina. 25-year-old Halep will next face Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro for a place in the quarter-finals.
