Nick Kyrgios | I would have been banned for 6 years for what Daria Gavrilova did
In a glorious bout of “whataboutery”, Nick Kyrgios took to Twitter to slam the tennis authorities’ “double standards” response to Daria Gavrilova almost hitting a ball boy after throwing her racquet in frustration. The Aussie went on to say that he would have received a six-year ban for the same.
The incident occurred during the opening round of the Mexican Open, in a match between Australian Daria Gavrilova and Madison Brengle. The former struggled at the start of the match but recovered to win in three sets. Her struggles came to a head as she chucked her racquet across the court and narrowly missed a ball boy, who had run towards the court after her double fault.

She escaped punishment for the incident, but not a verbal lashing from fellow Aussie and reputed bad boy, Nick Kyrgios. Having been punished with fines for offences as widely ranging as colourful language, throwing a racquet and walking off in the middle of a match, Kyrgios was at pains to highlight the double standards shown by the authorities in not punishing Gavrilova for the offence in his tweet.
I would be banned for 6 years and been on every paper and news channel for the next month https://t.co/zyQLl2i6eA
