WATCH: Australian Nick Kyrgios plays cheeky trick shot en route to victory
The controversial Nick Kyrgios made his return from a hip injury at the recently concluded Brisbane International in Australia. Despite losing the first set in the tie breaker, it was the talismanic Kyrgios who came up with the shot of the day against compatriot Matt Ebden yesterday.
After recovering from a hip injury, Kyrgios made his comeback to the international stage at the Brisbane International. The No 3 seed should have cruised through an all-Australian clash with world No 76 Matthew Ebden but lost the first set in a tie-break. But the 22-year old fought back to take the second in similar fashion before winning the decider 6-2 to complete the win in two hours and 14 minutes.
However, the highlight of the day was his cheeky shot at the net that served as a reminder of the immense talent that he possesses. In the fourth game of the first set, Kyrgios came up with a big serve down the T that Ebden could barely get over the net. The Aussie star made his way to the net and appeared to be getting ready to hit a cross-court backhand shot. Seeing this, Ebden made his way towards the ad court but was still moving when Kyrgios changed his mind and hit a drop winner. However, his win came at a cost as Kyrgios received a medical timeout during the first set itself due to sharp pain in his left knee.
“I haven’t been feeling anything coming into the tournament and couple of days ago I started feeling it. It was a bit surprising but it was still good enough to play,” said Kyrgios after the game.
