Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan failed to continue their journey in the men’s doubles of the Australian Open as they witnessed a loss with their respective partners in the third round. Yesterday, Leander Paes and Purav Raja were also ousted from the tournament after facing a straight-set loss.

Roha, who paired with Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin for the tournament, played against the pair of Oliver Marach of Austria and Croatia’s Mate Pavic and lost by 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6 at Melbourne Park.

The match lasted for two hours and eight minutes where both the team started very well as they held their serves and shared the first four games. In the next game, Bopanna and Vasselin lost their serve and after winning the next game took a 4-2 lead. Both pairs shared next four games which helped Marach and Pavic to win the first set 6-4.

The Indian-French pair fought back in the second set where they saved six break points, while conceding one, and also managed to convert one on their opponents’ serve to take the game into a tiebreaker. The game entered the tie-breaker and after Bopanna and Vasselin managed to hold their nerves to win it by 7-5 the match entered a decider.

Bopanna and Vasselin continued their momentum as they shared the first six games with their opponents. In the next three game, Marach and Pavic didn’t give an inch to their opponent to come back in the game as they also managed a break point to win the third set by 6-3.

Earlier, it was the pair of Sharan and Rajeev Ram from USA played against top seeds Lukasz Kubot of Poland and Brazil’s world number one Marcelo Melo. In the two hours and 12 minutes contest, Sharan and Ram suffered a 6-3, 6-7 (4), 4-6 loss.

Paes and Raja, who beat fifth seeds Bruno Soares and Jamie Murray in the second round, failed to recreate that performance in the pre-quarters of the men’s doubles as they were ousted by the Colombian pair of Cabal and Farah 1-6, 2-6 on Sunday.
