Yuki Bhambri loses to Thomas Fabbiano to end Wimbledon challenge

Despite taking lead against Thomas Fabbiano by winning the first set 6-2, Yuki Bhambri succumbed to the Italian losing the next three 3-6, 3-6, 2-6. Bhambri, who is ranked 85 in the world, was the only Indian star participating in the singles draw of the third Grand Slam of the year.

Grabbing a lead against Thomas Fabbiano in the first round meant nothing significant as Bhambri was unsuccessful in keeping a firm hold on the proceedings. He lost his first round 6-2, 3-6, 3-6, 2-6. Including this year, Bhambri has successfully appeared five times in the main draw of Wimbledon, but he has not been able to add a win to his name.

Bhambri, however, is completely determined to break against the consecutive defeat records. He believes that he has a lot of work to do, but he said that he is moving in the right direction.

“I just look at them as defeats not necessarily defeats at the Slams. In Australia the first couple of times, I met great players. I feel I am getting better and heading in the right direction but I know I have tons of work to do,” Bhambri told AFP.

“Playing at Wimbledon is something that I have always looked forward to so I was a little nervous coming into the match. I enjoyed the experience. It’s been a lifetime dream to be able to come here. I was really excited to play but I am just disappointed I couldn’t get the win."

Optimistic about the course of events taking place, Bhambri is working with coach Stephen Koon at his academy in Bangkok. He feels he is getting better as a player and is determined to invest his efforts and energy to further improve himself.
