Spanish tennis ace Rafael Nadal retained his spot at the top of ATP rankings despite a semi-final exit at the recently concluded Wimbledon as his old nemesis, Roger Federer trails him at number two. Serbia's Novak Djokovic returned to the top 10 from 21st position after his 2018 Wimbledon triumph.

The fresh list of ATP rankings has been revealed and the likes of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Alexander Zverev retain their position in the top half of the list. Rafael Nadal sat comfortably atop the list with a total of 9,310 points followed by Swiss rival Federer who had a tally of 7,080 points after his quarter-final exit at Wimbledon earlier this month. Federer’s failure to defend his title meant that his Spanish rival was now 2,230 points clear in the number one spot.

Nadal made the semi-finals in England but fell to Djokovic a 6-4, 6-3, 7-6, 3-6, 10-8, who eventually became the Wimbledon champion bagging his fourth Wimbledon trophy. Djokovic made an impressive jump from 21st position to enter the top 10 with 3,355 pts. The Serbian’s Wimbledon win also made him the lowest-ranked man to win the tournament since No 125 Goran Ivanisevic’s shock 2001 triumph.

Djokovic had endured a largely frustrating 2018 season so far, following his return from a lengthy elbow injury. But he built confidence at Queen’s, where he lost in the final to Marin Cilic. The 13-time Grand Slam winner, however, secured his fourth Wimbledon title by beating South Africa’s Kevin Anderson 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 in the finals in England.

The rest of the top 10 list remained pretty much the same with the exception of Austria’s Dominic Thiem and John Isner of USA. Isner’s loss in the semis to Anderson made him slip to ninth in the rankings as Thiem climbed one place to the eighth position despite retiring from Wimbledon in the first round itself.
