Yuki Bhambri was forced to retire against Milos Raonic in the second set of the first round clash at Queen's Club Championships due to a knee injury. The result came after Saketh Myneni had beaten Dzmitry Zhyrmont of Belarus in straight sets of the Round of 16 clash at the Fergana Challenger.

Raonic, who had made it all the way to the final of the Stuttgart Open, looked to be in sublime form right from the start as he made little work of his first service game to take a 1-0 lead in the set. In the next game, he put the Indian under some serious pressure saving three break points in a 14-point game. After another quick hold by Raonic, the Canadian brought up two break points out of which the Indian could only save only one. The Indian appeared to be struggling and it got worse for him as he was broken again in the sixth game before Raonic sealed the first set 6-1.

Playing with a strapped right ankle, Bhambri was broken again in the first game of the second set. After Raonic held his serve comfortably, the Indian did the same in the very next game without dropping a single point. However, after Raonic held serve again in the next game, Bhambri decided to call it a night and retired with the set score reading 3-1. It will be interesting to see if the Indian ace can regain his fitness in a couple of weeks to play on the green grass at Wimbledon.

In an earlier clash in Uzbekistan, Saketh Myneni thashed Dzmitry Zhyrmont in straight sets at Fergana Challenger. The match started with both players holding their serves but it was the Indian who looked dominant. In the first nine games of the first set, Myneni had come up with two perfect service games and put some pressure on the Belarus player’s serve missing a break-point as well. However, in what turned out to be the final game of the first set, Myneni took his opportunity as he converted a break-point to take the first set. The second set was utter domination by the Indian as he broke Zhyrmont in three consecutive games to take the match. Myneni, who is ranked 447 in the world, will take on World No 236 Roberto Cid in the quarter finals on Thursday.
